Outfielder always
hurry to the ball while keeping the ball in front of themselves.
This gives the Outfielder time to make last minute adjustments
needed to make the catch in the area of the throwing shoulder (a tip
in "Effective Outfielder Mechanics").
With ball hits
between two Outfielders, the Centerfielder make the play with the
other Outfielder backing up the play.

To demonstrate how concise and
detailed, yet how easy-to-read "EFFECTIVE OUTFIELDER MECHANICS"
is for the user, the actual text for "Positioning," one of
over 14 topics from this brochure, reads as follows:
"POSITIONING
Starting Point for Outfielder Positioning
Left Fielders - on a line that extends along the first and
second baseline... Center Fielders - two to three steps to
the left or right of the pitcher... Right Fielders - on a
line that extends along the second and third base baseline.
Note: When the pitcher hits their spots, position is
determined by the hitter's tendencies, the pitch being thrown, the
pitch location, the hitter's bat angle, the field conditions and the
outfielder's strengthens and weaknesses.
Special Considerations
Pitchers Unable to Hit Spots - play straight away varying the
depth played... Down One Run Late in the Game - play up a
couple of steps to cut off the tying or winning run... Tying or
Winning Run on First Late in the Game - play back to cut off any
doubles... Hitter Protecting the Plate (0-2 or 1-2) - play up
a couple of steps and, perhaps, a couple of steps to the opposite
field... Hitter Ahead in the Count (2-0, 3-1) - move back a
couple of steps... Known Pull Hitters - adjust 4-6 steps to
the pull side... Known Opposite Field Hitters - adjust 4-6
steps to the opposite side..." |
