Receive, Shield and Pass
Drill
Goal: Teach players to create space, receive and shield under
pressure.
Description: Spread five players around the perimeter of a
20-25 yard diameter circle with three balls. Two other players are
inside the circle, one acting as an attacker and the other as the
defender. The attacker moves to receive the ball. The attacker calls
the name of one of the players with a ball on the perimeter. The
player called sends the ball into the circle. The attacker controls
the ball, shields the ball from the defender and passes the ball to
a player on the perimeter who is standing without a ball. When the
attacker is successful with getting the pass to a player without the
ball, the attacker and the pass receiver change places with the pass
receiver becoming the new attacker. When the defender gets the ball
or knocks the ball out of the circle, the attacker and the defender
switch places starting play all over again. The coach can choose to
use more than one defender.
