PASSING ATTACK
þ When passing into an open space...
pass between the fullbacks and the goalkeeper.
þ When redirecting the play...
quick pass the ball from one side of the field to the other.

ATTACKER RESPONSIBILITIES
þ When handling the ball...
penetrate the defense by attacking the goal, by passing, dribbling or centering the ball to a space in front of the goal.
þ When one player away from the ball...
stay within a short to medium passing distance from the ball handler.
þ When the fourth player who is one pass away from the ball...
move back to be a long pass from the ball.
þ When the teammate who is a short pass away from the ball gets the ball...
stay within a short to medium passing distance from the new ball handler.
þ When assigned "Sweeper" responsibilities...
roam the field covering between the fullback and goalkeeper to stop breakaways and "sweep up" the ball kicking long kicks out of bounds to give the defense time to recover.

HEADING
(A Strong Recommendation: During headers, the player's mouth always remains closed.)
þ When controlling the ball...
use a Directional Header
þ When sending the ball as far as possible...
use a Clearing Header
þ When scoring a goal or clearing the ball from the defending goal area...
use a Jump Header.
þ When passing the ball to a teammate...
use a Jump Header.
þ When attempting to score goals off low kicks in front of the goal...
use a Dive Header
þ When the ball is too high for any other type of reception...
use a The Head Reception.

DEFENDING BREAKAWAYS
þ When defending "breakaways"...
always kick the ball out of bounds.

COUNTERATTACKS
þ When the opposition Fullbacks are pushed up...
counterattack as quickly as possible directly to the goal.

COMMUNICATION
þ When playing...
constantly talk to one another.

FINISHING - SHOOTING TO SCORE
þ When shooting ...
accuracy is more important than power.
þ When shooting ...
shoot from close enough to score
þ After taking a shot...
get in a good position for a rebound
þ When given a shot on goal...
take the shot.
þ When shooting near the goal...
take low shots to the corner of the goal.
þ When in the "defending third"...
avoid dribbling and pass the ball
þ When in the "defending third"...
always looks for a "give and go" pass.
þ When playing Forward in the "attacking third"...
always pressure the ball.

DRIBBLING
þ When dribbling...
a slight shoulder dip may catch the opponent leaning one way.
þ When the opponent is off balance...
always move in the opposite direction.
þ When near the goal...
use more passing and the less dribbling.
þ When in traffic or when the opposing player crowds the ball...
use a "Control Dribble."
þ When a pass is received with open space
between the player and the opponent...
use a "Speed Dribble."
þ When the opponent aggressively challenges a player...
shield the opponent from the ball.

chip the ball over the defender's head.
þ When the teammate is surrounded by defenders...
use a "pass to the feet."
þ When a space opens...
pass to the open space.
þ When a space opens just in back of the defender with no other passing options...
"chip pass" the ball to yourself.

SHOTS ON GOAL
þ When striking a stationary or rolling ball...
use the "Instep Drive Shot."
þ When shooting a ball out of the air...
use a "Full Volley."
þ When shooting a ball as soon as the ball hits the ground...
use a "Half Volley."
þ When the ball is bouncing or dropping to the side...
use a "Side Volley Shot."
þ When giving the ball some movement...
use a "Swerving Shot."
þ When the shot is made...
look for the rebound.

GOALKEEPING
þ When goalkeeping...
always keep your eyes on the ball.
þ When the shot comes...
always move the body between the ball and the goal.
þ When the shot is low in the air...
catch the ball.
þ When the ball is over the goalkeeper's head...
time a jump to save the ball.
þ When reacting to a save...
rolls the ball, throw a baseball pass between 20 and 30 yards, use a javelin motion to throw the ball even farther or punt the ball.

INDIRECT FREE KICKS
þ When making an "indirect free kick"...
always gently taps the ball to another player.
þ When making an "indirect free kick"...
pass the ball to another player who shoots the ball.

PASS RECEPTIONS
þ When receiving ground ball...
pull back the foot to control the ball.
þ When receiving a pass while closely guarded...
use the "Outside Of The Foot Reception"
þ When receiving lofted passes...
use either the instep, thigh, chest or head to
control the ball.
 þWithout defensive pressure...
use the "Instep Reception."
þ When the ball is coming at a downward angle...
use the "Thigh Reception."
þ When under a tremendous amount of pressure...
use the "Chest Reception" to control or redirect the ball.

TRANSITION DEFENSE
þ When possession is lost...
the player nearest the ball attacks the ball, the other players move behind the ball keeping both their assigned opponent and the ball in sight.

BALL NEAR THE DEFENDING GOAL
þ When the ball is near the defending goal... drift in toward the center of the field.
þ When the ball is near the defending goal...
cover the defender on the goal side.

CUT OFF THE PASSING LANES
þ When covering an opponent...
cover closely to force a pass in the air.

TACKLES
þ When the opponent is dribbling directly toward the defender...
use a "Block Tackle."
þ When approaching the opponent from the side or slightly behind...
use a "Poke Tackle."
þ When the opponent has beaten the player and there is little chance of catching the opponent or when approaching from behind...
use the "Slide Tackle."

WHEN TO TACKLE THE BALL
þ Tackle...
just as the opponent receives the ball.
þ Tackle...
as the opponent is bringing the ball under control.
þ Tackle...
as the opponent pushes the ball away for a dribble.

DEFENSIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
þ When the Defender closest the ball...
use direct pressure to delay the attacker or force a pass to an area having another defender nearby.
þ When one player from the Defender closest the ball...
back up the First Defender and intercept any passes coming to the opponent being defended.
þ When two players from the ball...
protect the space behind the Second Defender making sure to keep an eye on both the ball and the opponent being defender.
þ When one of the other defenders...
shift as a unit behind the Second Defender as the ball moves on the field.
þ When the "Sweeper"...
roam the field covering between the fullback and goalkeeper to stop breakaways by kicking long kicks out of bounds.

MOVEMENT "OFF-THE-BALL"
þ When within a pass of the ball (either short or long)...
always be ready quickly sprint forward to beat the defenders to the ball passed to the open space.

CUT OFF THE PASSING LANES
þ When covering an opponent...
cover closely to force a pass in the air.
