Effective Defensive Drills
"Infielder to the Plate Drill
Goal: Teach infielder to make throws to the plate.
Drill: With the entire infield in position, the coach hits ground
balls to each of the infielders using all the "Ground Ball Options". The
infielders catch the ball throwing as quickly as possible to the plate. The
catcher either makes a simulated tag or a force play. The catcher then throws
the ball back to the original infielder covering their base.

Goal: Teach the team to defend the bunt in
all types of situations.
Drill: Divide the team into bunters and base runners with the
infielders, including the pitcher, and catchers in position. Either the
coach or a pitchers throws a pitch to the hitter with runners on base in all the
"Men on Base Situations." The runners goal is getting to the next
base, the defensive goal is keeping the runner from moving up, but getting the
out."
